FAQs

How are lessons structured?

Everyone’s lessons are a bit different, depending on what you want to accomplish. Your lessons will reflect your particular interests and vocal needs.

In general, your lesson will have the following elements:

  • Conversational check-in; what are your goals for this lesson?
  • Body Alignment Work
  • Breath Work
  • Vocal Exercises as needed (each exercise chosen specifically for the particular student and for a particular voice-building purpose)
  • Working on songs!
  • *Optional: Music Theory and/or Sight-Reading
  • Lessons recorded for your future reference, at your request (no charge)
What is your schedule and pay structure?

First, I offer a free, one-time 15-minute consultation on Zoom. This will give you a chance to ask any questions you may have, discuss your goals, and see if this is something you’d like to do.

If you decide you’d like to take lessons, you. may sign up for one or more. Lessons are 30 minutes long and cost $35 each. If you wish, you can sign up for two consecutive spots for an hour-long lesson. When you click on the link to schedule a lesson, it will take you to a calendar of upcoming available dates and times. Once you schedule your lesson, it will link to PayPal. Once you make the payment, you’ll immediately receive confirmation of the date and time, PayPal receipt, and the Zoom link for the lesson.

Cancellation Policy:

Scheduled lessons are refundable up until 36 hours prior to the lesson start time. After that, they are not refundable for any reason.

What is Your Teaching Philosophy?

I have taught and coached thousands of singers. As a voice teacher, my first responsibility is to ensure that a student is singing with the healthiest possible technique. Poor technique and oversinging can harm voices, sometimes permanently. Healthy technique doesn’t mean making you sound like “this” or “that”, but rather helping each singer find his or her own beautiful, powerful, unique sound by working with the body and developing the voice effectively but gradually; the same process as any other fitness program.

Singing is one of the greatest pleasures of life! When you learn to work with your own, unique instrument to sing in a healthy way, it sounds and feels wonderful!

Everyone can improve at singing. It is true that we are born with differing levels of innate talent and have varying childhood exposure to music, and those things can make a difference. Each voice is different. Some voices are stronger than others, just as some knees are stronger than others. However, with guidance and practice, every person can advance on their own path as a singer.

I welcome and respect all students, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, ethnicity or nationality.

What Do I Need for Online Lessons?

I teach via Zoom. Zoom is cost-free and when you sign up for your free consultation, I will send you some Zoom settings that will give us the best possible sound interface.

Hardware Requirements:

     1) A strong, consistent wifi connection. (If wifi is not available, a cell phone wifi hotspot will generally work.)

     2) A laptop or desktop computer.

     3) Headphones or ear buds.

If you wish, I will record each lesson for you and email you a link for reference.

It is helpful if you bring songs you want to work on to your first lesson. If you aren’t sure where to begin, we can choose something during the lesson.
